    Default Shoe question...

When I go heavy doing squats or deadlifts in a pair of Adidas Ironworks II my feet kill me the next few days. They feel fine to move the weight in but then the next day my feet are killing me. The shoes seem like they fit fine, but I do have wide and thick feet. The pain usually is on the very outer edge, but still feels like a plantar thing...

This doesn't happen when I squat in a pair of Chucks. With Chucks on I have no flexibility issue, I can pretty much go ATG, or as far below parallel as my legs will bend with no problem at all.

Should I just ditch the Oly shoes and continue with the Chucks or should I man up and endure the Oly shoes until my feet get used to them. Try a different pair possibly?

I have also been doing foot drills now every workout trying to eliminate any possible foot weakness, and it seems to have helped except when I use the Oly shoes.

On a side note, yet another prop, Monday your squat form got more A+ comments from yet another fellow PLer in the gym. This particular competing lifter said she was actually pointing out my execution of form to a couple younger up and comings.

If you have a foot any wider than a C, Adidas will not fit you. I have D/E width foot and I cannot even get my foot in an Adidas WL shoe. This is the only problem, so get some wider shoes ASAP.

    Rip,

I know you are not a shoe expert...but...any thoughts on narrow WL shoes other than Adidas? VSAthletics for example?

I am tempted to get DoWins, but it sounds from your response that would not work well.

    thanks

As it happens, I am a shoe expert. VS Athletics are made by Do Win, and they are lasted wide as well.

    Mr. Rippetoe,

If Rogue Do-Wins are made for wider feet, does this mean a person with narrower feet should not get them? or does it mean that the shoes can be worn by feet with any width. Also, what shoe would you recommend that is similar (heel height) to the Rogues but is fit for a more narrow foot.

For narrow feet, are Adidas Ironworks or Adistars your recommendation?

In addition, if it matters, I have flat feet.

    Thanks.

Everybody who buys the Canadian Power Firm shoes loves them. All the Adidas shoes seem to fit the same, so just get the ones you can afford. Flat feet especially need the support offered by WL shoes. And if your shoes are a little sloppy you can wear 2 pair of socks to fill them up. If this doesn't work, the shoes are too wide and you'll have to try another brand. The Power Firms always fit, best I can tell, since he makes them to order.
