Gordie play "PRO" into his 50s, he was ripped then at that age, he was a generational super human athlete.

The OLY lifting for the small price of a little exhaustion and soreness (and humiliation) once in awhile give me a ton of insight (and oversight) on all aspects of lifting. Since there is no SS coaches within a 4-5 hour drive to me this is the next best thing...I could hope for. There are women and men in their 60-70s in this club, they know how to train with older masters. I have only recently graduated from the 2.5kg technique plates!

Some in their late 60s and early 70s can do Olympics lifts. Some in our gym do. I cannot. I passed out and decided with Coach Sullivan that they weren't for me.

Gordie Howe played for the Red Wings when I was a young person. I was sad to hear of his demise. I thought he might avoid that.

A visit with a Starting Strength Coach from time to time might be well worth a 5-10 hour drive. Sully had a gentleman who flew in from NY.

Im trying to scheme a way to get to the SS gym that is closest for a weekend, that maybe has some shopping for my wife. Im also hoping by then that she is doing some SS with me, I am working really hard selling that, she agrees that squatting would be good for her butt. Only a matter of time.

    Session 19 last nite

Could not get to the gym last not till after 8pm or so, I was tired from the day before I started. My last SS lifts were the previous weekend.
    Body weight 188lbs
    HB back squat: 45x5, 45x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x3, 165x2, 175x5x3
    Strict OHP: 45x5, 45x5, 65x4, 80x5, 80x5 80x4 (Fail)
    DL: 115x5, 205x5, 220x5

On the squat I am physically more aware of the ass shooting out thing, I think I kept my knees locked outwards better in the decent and drive. When I got home I watched a dozed vids of squatting cues and tips etc last night and I noticed half as many variations in the execution. I might have to take a step back and work on mobility so my butt/hips, upper back and knees are all on the same page. I think I failed in the OHP just due to fatigue, it was the last rep on the 5th set. The DLs are nearing my 1 rep max from my crossfit days (240lbs), since I lower to the floor now instead of dropping from top this is some progress I think.

Sounds like your lifting habit could become really expensive, but not because of the gym fees!

    Session 20
Have not lifted for over a week due to travel, being busy and wanting to give my knees a break.

    HB-Back Squat 45x5, 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x4, 165x2, 177.5 (3 sets of 5)
    BP 45x5, 95x5, 112.5 (3 sets of 5)
    PC 45x5, 70 (3 sets of 5)
The Squats and benches were hard work today for some reason.

3 hockey games in and I have noticed a big difference between the other players and myself. I am quicker off of the hop, transitions in turn overs are quick (I can throw it in full reverse and pivot with authority), I have better acceleration…I am in the corner first. I also do not feel tired at any time, the others slow down as the games grinds on, I can keep my pace.

    Next entry: Saturday or Sunday

    Session 21

    Body weight 189 lbs.

    HB Back Squat: 45x5,45x5, 95x5, 115x5, 135x4, 155x3, 175x2, 180 (3 sets of 5)
    Strict Press: 45x5, 45x5, 65x5, 80x5x3
    DL: 95x5, 165x3, 215x2, 225x5
Chins: 3 sets of 2, all I could barely manage, someday I would love to be able to crank out high reps in multiple sets of pull ups....how do I get there?

Eating more before I head out including my protein shake.
On the squats, the work got easier in the 3rd of my working sets....I have noticed this before.
