During the squat. You need to initiate the squat by breaking at the hips and knees at the same time and send your butt BACK.

But don’t “lean into the hole”. Once your back is at the correct angle, stop leaning over, and maintain that back angle as you lower the hips.

Leaning over too much can be as bad as not leaning over enough.

I don't think a rank novice can lean over too much.

Here's my third set of five at 145lbs from yesterday. Narrowing my grip seems to have solved (for now) any bar slippage - things feel a lot tighter wrt to the bar/upper back interface - like the bar is in a spring loaded trap between my back and arms. I also noticed how if I focus on squeezing the scapulas in, I can create a better shelf. Hoping this is on the right track.

I think I can feel that stretch reflex coming out of the hole when I focus on the "boing" but need to work on it. Could probably lean over and shove the knees out more as well. I need some better shoes.

Don't post a video where we cannot clearly see your depth.

Are you exhaling before you go down?

No, I'm taking a big breath then I hold/brace throughout the rep.

Back with my third set of 5 from today at 190lbs and hopefully a better camera angle. Something seems up with the bar path moving forward near the bottom, like my upper torso is dipping/sliding. But again I'm quite green to all of this so am not sure.

Should the lower back go into some flexion near the bottom to go deeper? I'm attempting to keep the back rigid for now but the last couple reps looked a little high.

I ordered some squat shoes and a non-tapered belt (4"). Thanks in advance y'all.
