“Where does the time go? I got to the gym at 7am. I had to squat 3 sets of 5, press 3 sets of 5, and finish with a single work set of deadlifts. But it’s 9:30am, and I’m just now leaving the gym. This shouldn’t have taken me more than like 90 minutes.”

I confess, I'm guilty of taking too much time for my workout. I always take somewhere between 90 and 150 minutes. Even took three hours on a few instances.

Here is how it breaks down:

Until the start of the workout: 3.

    Squat warm-ups: 15-20.
    Squat work set: 3-6.
    Squat work set rest: 15-18.

    Time between lifts: 5.

    Press warm-ups: 10-15.
    Press work set: 2-3.
    Press work set rest: 9-15.

    Time between lifts: 5.

    Pull warm-ups: 15-25.
    Pull work set: 0.5-1.
    Pull work set rest: 6-15.

Lots of room for optimization. I also waste a bit of time with camera setup to record at least the last work set.

From observation of others and personal experience just keeping the phone out of the gym solves the time problem.

Mt problem is that my body knows I need a good clear out before a workout and spend endless time visiting the toilet!
