So I’d just like to get some opinions. I’m in no financial position to actually build a garage. I have a couple of options. 1: just build a wooden floor structure in the backyard. The problem I see with that is leveling the floor sufficiently. I could always reinforce the floor, double up on joists, etc. 2: a spare room downstairs. The ceilings are high enough, and the floors are concrete, but we have in-floor radiant heating. I’m not sure it’d be a great idea to be setting down a 500 lb deadlift on that the way we do it, even with a triple layer platform. Thoughts?

What are the specs on the heated floor?

I’ll see what I can find out when I get home in a couple of days. We didn’t build the house. So it’s not a given that it’s a bad idea, you think?

Depends on the concrete thickness and the pipe/coil placement.

Yeah. The thickness I’ll probably be able to get. There’s a pretty detailed manual the previous owner passed on to us. Don’t think it’s as detailed as pipe placement though.

Is this room at grade or in the basement, meaning it's on grade, or is it above grade on framing of some sort?

If it's the later, don't try it.

It’s in the basement. I’m getting the feeling it’s not a good idea.

If you put enough plywood on it, you'll probably be okay.

Sorry, didn’t see this one. It’s water.
