Hey gang. I’ve been maintaning my shoulder for a while with my partially torn rotator cuff but now I’m looking to do the OhP work more seriously to finally get better fuctional movement and strength back. When I do OHP with the shrug at the end with about 20-30 lbs to start I have no pain however my concern is that when I lift my arm overhead no weight my arm doesn’t necessarily lift up to the point when my bicep is basically next to my ear however in full lockout during OhP is seems to go through the proper range.

My worry is that because of a potential lack of range of motion I would be making my issue worse with oHP is this possible? And if yes is there an exercise you recommend to be able to gain that last bit of range of motion comfortably?

    Thanks

The best exercise to restore that range of motion is the press. If your lockout is correct and can be achieved with weight and without pain, I cannot imagine any scenario where this would cause an injury.

Your description of your lockout is insufficient to determine if your lockout is correct. Post a video. Maybe post a video of yourself without weight, for that matter, since this is a strange problem to be encountering.

I do appreciate your response thanks. One thing is that I’ve had for a while some pain and numbness in fingers when I mess with overhead press. I was pretty symptomless till I did them yesterday but they do happen on the left side, opposite side of my rotator cuff injury which my Physio thought is facet joint causing inflammation. regardless of the issue, is there a possibility that I only do these one armed on my week and rotator cuff injured side to remedy my cuff but avoid aggravating my neck issue on the other side?
