olympic lifting?

Hi Coach

I've been toying with the idea of getting into oly lifting. Thing is, my school gym doesn't allow it and doesn't have bumpers. Do you have suggestions on how I might start? Know of any good places around the UC Berkeley area?

Also, the DVD has been helpful!! Especially the power clean section!!!

Find the closest CrossFit facility. They are friendly to Olympic lifters.

I found a listing somewhere on the USAW site for coaches. Closest ones to me are James Curry and James Schmitz. Ever heard of em? Is a coach necessary? I'm also kind of a poor college student... most of my money goes into rent, food, and milk.

CrossFit Oakland is about 4 miles away from you. I'm a member there and there are lots of people that can help you with your Oly lifts. The owners are excellent coaches.

I just got back from the Arnolds, and Tommy Kono and Mark Cameron were both in the warmup room for weightlifting. I wasn't competing, so I got to talk to both of them. Mark helped me with my third pull and my jerk and I got to chat with Tommy for about 30 minutes.
