He was kidding, Shenfield. But it's wal, so it wasn't funny.
What for? Look at the Texas flag, how many stars does it have? One not 51. When Texans come down under you ask them where they come from, they never say "America", but "Texas", even Rippetoe I bet when he travels overseas he always says I am from Texas USA. Is that not right Mark?
From A Texans Point Of View
I never say "Texas USA." Just Texas.
You do understand the difference between states and federal flags surely?
I'm from Western Australia. I'd be quite happy seceding from the rest of this pitiful place. We were the last to sign up and shut our border asap during the big C (not that I agree with anything that happened then).
I'm Western Australian first and foremost, I'd go further and say I'm not from Perth, but I'm still an Australian for better or worse, until WA separates.
I imagine that Texas is kind of like that too. I guess Rip is ashamed of his country because he's currently still part of it even if he'd prefer Texas leave. It's no joking matter really.
Something to consider also, if you want to keep that "Texas" origin you could come to Australia and live in "Texas" Australia, that way you can live here but still say "I am from Texas".

To be fair though, is there anything more thoroughly American than Texas?
You've seen my shirt on the podcast.

And Denninger has an excellent take on the recent assassination of the Medical Services Industry CEO: On Corporate CEOs in [Market-Ticker-Nad]
Yeah, somebody was pissed about something. And amazingly enough, Yahoo News has published this: Words on ammo in CEO shooting echo common phrase on insurer tactics: Delay, deny, defend
And this one is better: You Don't Hate Government Enough in [Market-Ticker-Nad]A message left at the scene of an insurance executive’s fatal shooting — “deny,” “defend” and “depose” — echoes a phrase commonly used to describe insurer tactics to avoid paying claims.
The three words were written on the ammunition a masked gunman used to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday. They're similar to the phrase “delay, deny, defend” — the way some attorneys describe how insurers deny services and payment, and the title of a 2010 book that was highly critical of the industry.
Now FEMA is "done" with WNC -- there are videos circulating of them leaving their "camp" there they set up for their "workers". But much worse than doing nothing code enforcement people in the counties are going around preventing the residents from using temporary shelters to sleep in and there apparently has been an attempt to barricade the Chimney Rock road that was built by volunteers to restore access between there and Bat Cave.
If the government doesn't want to help then so be it -- but if they want to try to actually force people to not use a walled shelter and barricade a usable road so supplies can get in to the affected area, especially when temperatures are going well below freezing and its snowing on top of it then it is definitely time for Americans there to decide whether or not they still have a pair of balls.
Can't we all just get along?
Not if you're going to throw people out into the snow, on their own land and barricade the only means of access which white dudes with their own equipment built after government agencies refused to assist while at the same time sending a billion dollars over to Africa to help THEM after a somewhat-similar natural disaster. In that case every single government entity and person involved deserves to get what the British got at Concord -- the choice to either go away and leave people alone -- and leave that billion right here so it can be used for temporary shelter, heating devices and similar or else.
